I am so very excited to announce New Services by Dawn Welburn LMT here at ReAwaken Through Touch. I have spent the past few months in intense study and workshops for both Pregnancy Massage and Birth Doula and am in the last stages of the certification processes. I am so pleased to now be able to offer these Services to the women in the NYC Metro  community.

Both Pregnancy Massage and Birth Doula are Services that have you, the Mother, at the center. Knowledge of the physiological changes within the body from the time of conception through 3 months Postpartum are at the core of this work and the safety of Mom and Baby at its forefront.  Services are Integrative and Individualized for each client, as with all of my other services which I provide. My vision is to assist you in having a safe, comfortable, joyful and pleasurable organic birth experience.

These Two Hands…

Weight Loss and Bodywork

There are many benefits one can gain from adding massage therapy into their weight loss plans. One of the effects briefly mentioned in the article I have linked below, is the mental or emotional benefits of having someone, your massage therapist, as a safe and trusted supporter who accepts your body without judgment.

I have found massage to be more than just a vehicle for acceptance from another, but THE road to self acceptance. For me, my extreme weight gain was a way to hide from the world and most importantly from my self. Fat was an excellent place to hide. The more years and the more weight, the more I detached from my body. For longer than I can now remember, I only looked at myself in a mirror from a point just above my breasts to the top of my head. I had absolutely no idea of the condition or size of my body.  I am sure this sounds unbelievable, especially if you’ve never been in that place of disliking yourself and your life choices to the extent that I did.

When I began my studies in Massage Therapy, I had absolutely no idea of how life changing the process would be. Giving and receiving massage every week for two years, was some of the hardest and most amazing experiences of my life. I was determined to do the work, even though the level of body awareness required of me seemed impossible at times. I was forced to get to know my own body, to better know the bodies of others. In the reconnecting with my body, I reconnected to my self.

In the 6 years since I began my studies in clinical massage therapy, I have lost around 75 lbs. I did not use any diet or weight loss program, nor did I begin any new exercise regimen. For me personally, massage brought me back into my self and made me aware of my body on a level I have possibly never known. Through massage, I learned to accept my body and before I knew it, that acceptance turned to love.  My exercise and eating changes came about slowly, through this rediscovered love for my body and my desire to live and love life.

Changes

After a challenging summer that included TWO household moves and a brief stay in the hospital, things are shifting here at Rewaken!  I am very excited to share what the late Summer breeze has blown in for us!

First, what the breeze is blowing out…Starting September 14th, 2013, I will NO LONGER be providing my Intuitive Massage Services at  NAMASTE HEALING ARTS CENTER.  This is a wonderful community full of many offerings for your spiritual needs and I highly recommend a visit to the Namaste Bookshop if you’ve never been! Visit www.namastebookshop.com for Bookshop, Healing Center AND Gift Shop locations, hours and offerings!

 
So, where can you find me in Manhattan, NY?
Manhattan seems to be where my volunteer services are needed at this time.  On Fridays, I can be found at GMHC providing Therapeutic Massage Sessions to their Clients. For more information on this amazing organization visit www.gmhc.org.   Starting alternating Wednesdays in October, I can be found in the Family Lounge at Morgan-Stanley Childrens Hospital providing Chair Massage to Parents and Patients. 
Now for what is blowing in… I am taking the plunge and securing extended time and space in this fabulous Prospect Heights, Brooklyn location!!       By advanced booking, I will be available for appointments on Thursdays & Saturdays from 11am to 9pm. For the possibility of other days/times, please contact me and I will see what we can work out! *Multi-Service Menu: A selection of services and lengths are available for your group to choose from, such as 60 minute table massage, 30 minute foot massage, or 15 minute hand massage.

*Instructional: Your group can be taught basic massage for sharing touch with friends and loved ones.

A Massage Party is the PERFECT way to spend time with friends and nurture yourself at the same time. What a fabulous combination!
