Loving, Dying, and Letting Go

What does it mean to love?
What does it mean to die?
And how can we let go?

Have you recently experienced grief due to death or the loss of an important relationship? Are you a caretaker working with the bereaved? Do you wonder what it means to face your own death, or the death of those you love? If so, this workshop is for you.

The three questions above are central to human life. Philosophers and spiritual leaders
throughout time have reflected upon them. Wise ones across all ages and cultures have offered
up their own insights into answering these perennial queries. And, of course, all of us ~ all who
know birth, breath, and death ~ wrestle at times with what it all means. What does it mean to
love, die, and “let go”?

The Loving, Dying, and Letting Go workshop is designed to create a safe space for heartfelt
inquiry into these questions. People of all philosophies and faith traditions are warmly
welcomed to gather together to listen, learn, and ~ most importantly ~ personally reflect upon
the questions above. For those who have experienced grief due to death or the loss of an
important relationship, for those who are caretaking or working with the bereaved, or for
anyone wondering it means to face one’s own death, or the death of those we love ~ this
workshop will be particularly moving/beneficial.

All are welcome to join Rev. Dawn Welburn for a transformative and personal exploration of these questions.

Loving, Dying, and Letting Go is a 5-hour workshop based upon the work/writing of Amy Wright
Glenn, founder of the Institute for the Study of Birth, Breath, and Death. The three questions
explored in the Loving, Dying, and Letting Go workshops directly connects to the key themes
present in Amy’s second book Holding Space: On Loving, Dying, and Letting Go published
by Parallax Press in 2017.

Three Key Themes

What does it mean to love? How is attachment formed? What are the various types of love known in human experience? How do you love? Who do you love?

What does it mean to die? How do various world traditions approach the topic of dying? When have you known death? What are your hopes and fears?

How can we love fully in a world of letting go? What does it mean to hold space for loss? How do you work with the energies of fear? How can we embody healthy attachment and reconciliation to loss?

In both in-person and online workshops, participants are asked to integrate knowledge gained and share ~ through writing and small group/partner/personal reflections ~ what it means to love, die, and let go given their own specific life circumstance, relationship context, work etc. Participants are encouraged to work with the energy of fear, transform the energies of hurt, and move forward in loving, dying, and letting go with great courage.

All participants are required to read Holding Space  so they can more deeply apply the questions outlined above to their own life journeys. To receive a certificate of completion, participants must complete the training.
